Lyric and Leathers: Ride for the Lyric Opera
Opera is hip, young and not as stuffy as its reputation would lead you to believe. After all, Mozart may not have thrown on his leathers and gone for a ride, but Lyric Opera Artistic Director Ward Holmquist does.
On Sunday, October 21, 2007 the Lyric Opera invited riders to do opera without the tux. Sixty-plus riders put on their jeans and joined us for our inaugural motorcycle ride. The ride started at the Lyric Theatre in downtown Kansas City, MO and wound around the roads out to Weston. Weather held out and riders enjoyed a beautiful ride, scenic outlooks, and some wonderful coffee sponsored by The Roasterie at Weston Bend State Park.
Riders returned to the Lyric Theatre after the 65 mile ride and enjoyed fantastic food sponsored by Majestic Steakhouse and incredible stunt shows by ILLCONDUCT sponsored by Gail's Harley-Davidson.

The funds raised from the ride will help underwrite the Lyric Opera's season and the innovative and successful continuing education and outreach programs. Bringing the beauty and drama of opera to new audiences is an ongoing goal of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
