West Side Story Fan Fiction contest:

Have you ever imagined an alternate ending to West Side Story? Or an alternate beginning—could Tony and Maria have met somewhere other than the dance at the gym? Or perhaps Anita and Bernardo are the ones who sing “Somewhere.”

Put those imaginings to work in poetry or a short story and enter our West Side Story Fan Fiction contest! You could win a Grand Prize package that includes tickets to West Side Story, dinner at the Kauffman Center, free parking for your performance, and an autographed copy of Jamie Bernstein’s new book, Famous Father Girl. Our celebrity judges, Kaite Stover of Kansas City Public Library and Helen Hokanson of Johnson County Library, will select the Grand Prize winner. The winning entry will also be featured on kcopera.org and in Lyric Opera social media. Additionally, certain entries may be featured or excerpted on kcopera.org or on social media, but may not win an award.

All entries must be accompanied by a registration form. Click through the menu items below for more details.
