Love Is On Its Last Breath.
Violetta is a far-famed courtesan whose skills in seduction and savoir-faire attract admirers from the cream of the aristocratic crop. From this host of hedonistic heathenry emerges a youthful hopeless romantic, Alfredo. Soon swayed by his professions of love, Violetta forsakes her Parisian life of luxury and settles countryside with the love of her life. But Alfredo’s father, filled with preconceived notions about her scandalous past, pressures Violetta into leaving her one true love. With Verdi’s goosebump-inducing melodies serenading the star-crossed couple, a betrayed and broken-hearted Alfredo learns that Violetta has become bedridden with tuberculosis. He goes to her, and once in each other’s arms, love is rekindled, and redemption is swift. But is this happy reunion the first step toward a second chance or their last chance to say goodbye?

Violetta Valéry, Amanda Woodbury
Soprano Amanda Woodbury is an alumna of LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. Highlights include appearances at The Metropolitan Opera debuting the role Juliette (Bartlett Sher’s Roméo et Juliette), Leïla (The Pearl Fishers), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), and the Rising Stars concert series. Woodbury has been a regular at LA Opera in roles Micaëla (Carmen), Musetta (La bohème), and Papagena (The Magic Flute). Additional highlights include Konstanze (The Abduction from the Seraglio) with Des Moines Metro Opera and Dayton Opera, Pamina (The Magic Flute) with Madison Opera, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) with Merola Opera Program, and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi) at Aspen Music Festival.
Alfredo Germont, Daniel Montenegro
A graduate of San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellow Opera Program, tenor Daniel Montenegro debuted with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, and San Diego Opera as Luis in El Pasado Nunca se Termina (2015). Upcoming roles include The Duke (Rigoletto) with Nashville Opera and Rafael (Cruzar la Cara de la Luna) with Opera Santa Barbara. Recent engagements include Giovanni (La Hija de Rappaccini) with Chicago Opera Theater, Tybalt (Roméo et Juliette) with San Francisco Opera, Mario (Il Postino) with Virginia Opera and Opera Santa Barbara, Verdi’s Requiem with The Phoenix Symphony, and featured soloist with Minnesota Opera at the Opera America annual Opera Conference (2021).
Giorgio Germont, Weston Hurt
A graduate of Juilliard Opera Center, baritone Weston Hurt has received many notable vocal awards, including first place and People’s Choice Award from the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition, Vienna Prize from The George London Foundation, and first place in the Oratorio Society of New York Solo Competition (2003). Hurt’s 2022-2023 season features a return to several signature roles. He joins Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Germont in their covid-postponed La traviata, Arizona Opera as Scarpia in Tosca, and brings his Sharpless in Madama Butterfly to New Orleans Opera. On the concert stage, he performs Britten’s War Requiem with Opera Roanoke.

He made debuts conducting Korean Symphony Orchestra, The Capulets and the Montagues (Opera Omaha), La bohème (Arizona Opera), STARias (Wolf Trap), and The Magic Flute with Des Moines Metro Opera and Opéra de Montréal.
Director, Francesca Zambello
The works of internationally renowned opera and theater director Francesca Zambello have been seen at The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra national de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Opera Australia, and The Bolshoi Theatre. She has staged plays and musicals on Broadway, National Theatre, Bregenzer Festspiele, Disneyland, and The Kennedy Center. She has served as Artistic & General Director of The Glimmerglass Festival since 2010, and Artistic Director of Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center since 2012.
