Estimated running time is 2 hours, 30 minutes with one intermission.
The only thing harder than breaking into Hollywood is breaking out.
This risqué rom-com transplants Mozart’s trademark melodies to the golden age of Hollywood, where a “legitimate businessman” kidnaps a dishy doll with pretty pipes and locks her away in his swanky nightclub.
While her honey puts together a plan to free the club’s new canary from her cage, her singing sparks a sweetness in the buttoned-up boss. But it’ll take more than a little luck to break her outta the joint. Until then, the showgirl must go on.
UNDERSTAND EVERY WORD: The Abduction from the Seraglio will be sung in German, with English subtitles.
Arrive early to enjoy a FREE PRE-OPERA TALK before each Lyric Opera performance at the Kauffman Center. Pre-opera talks start one hour before curtain and last about 30 minutes.
For extra fun, get dolled up, vintage-style, or come in costume to any performance as one of your favorite Tinseltown stars. You may spot some ritzy celebrities, or sidestep a few paparazzi as you make your way to your seats! Follow our social media for updates and behind-the-scenes fun.
This project is supported in part by the City of Kansas City, Missouri Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund.
