Lyric Opera of Kansas City is launching a new family holiday tradition, with a beloved work for all ages that is the most viewed opera in the world. We are inviting area businesses to partner with us by sponsoring the video production of this exciting project, which will be a recurring holiday highlight in the Kansas City area.
Join other KC businesses in sponsoring the video production of Amahl and the Night Visitors for $1,000.
The benefits of sponsorship include:
- Recognition in the digital program book and during pre-show titles
- Online access to the video performance for employees
Based on Italian folk tales of the Nativity and Epiphany, Amahl and the Night Visitors tells the story of the Magi from the point of view of a young shepherd boy who lives with his widowed mother near Bethlehem. A modern classic by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and librettist Gian Carlo Menotti, Amahl and the Night Visitors is a heartwarming story told with humor and tenderness – a holiday experience that the entire family can enjoy together.
The live performances of this work will take place December 3-13, 2020 in our Production Arts Building, where we can properly space performers and audiences to responsibly meet public safety standards. We are collaborating with internationally recognized puppeteer Paul Mesner, who for decades was the artistic director of Mesner Puppet Theater, to create the life-size puppets of the Three Kings created for this production.
Our production of Amahl and the Night Visitors will also be filmed for digital distribution and as an educational offering to schools. The digital version enables us to reach a much larger audience with this work, which has its own impressive history as a filmed presentation. The original telecast of the work in 1951 was the first presentation of the Hallmark Hall of Fame series, and it established a tradition of filmed opera performances that has continued to the present day, including PBS’ Great Performances series.
