Actor Audition - Ulysses

February 20, 2019 | 4:00 p.m.

For: Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s Explorations Series project, PENELOPE, by Sarah
Kirkland Snider and Ellen McLaughlin
Conductor: Carolyn Watson
Director: Alison Moritz

Role: ULYSSES
Age: 30-40

ULYSSES has a small amount of text to speak. No singing required. (‘Penelope’ is a
sung role, to be performed by Mezzo-soprano Annie Rosen.)
Ulysses is ex-military, athletic, buzz cut, troubled/haunted by war. A bluecollar/
comfortable look—jeans/workout wear/t-shirt/flannel shirt/baseball cap kind-of-guy.

Schedule: Rehearsals begin Tuesday March 19. One performance Saturday, March
30th, 7:30pm

PENELOPE, with music by Sarah Kirkland Snider and Text by Ellen McLaughlin, is a
song-cycle/chamber piece for String Quintet, Percussion and electronic sounds based
on Homer’s epic poem, THE ODYSSEY. It is a meditation on memory, identity, and
what it means to come home.

Applicants should send a headshot, cover letter, and resume to Sarah Zsohar
szsohar@kcopera.org by Tuesday, February 19, 2019 with SUBJECT: ULYSSES.
