Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation, was incorporated in the state of Missouri in 1958. The mission of Lyric Opera is to make Lyric Opera of Kansas City indispensable to the public through transformational opera experiences and broad service which captures the hearts and minds of our diverse communities.
Lyric Opera of Kansas City Foundation, a related organization, was incorporated in 2000 and is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation. The mission of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City Foundation is to aid and support Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Inc and to advance the purpose of the opera as an important cultural, educational, and civic institution in the Kansas City Community.
Each organization prepares internal standalone financial statements on a regular basis. Each entity is audited annually. The consolidated financial statements of Lyric Opera of Kansas City include the balances for both organizations. Additionally, each entity prepares an annual standalone Form 990 tax return of organization exempt from income tax which is filed with the Internal Revenue Service.
