ANDRIANA CHUCHMAN

Ukrainian-Canadian soprano Andriana Chuchman's range of repertoire includes the heroines of Mozart and Handel, 20th century works, and premieres of new operas and orchestral works. Her 2023–2024 engagements include Dallas Opera’s world premiere of Joby Talbot’s The Diving Bell and Butterfly, role debuts of Violetta (La traviata) at Opera Omaha, Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) at Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at Houston Grand Opera. She recently made her role debut as the title role in Alcina with Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.

Chuchman has appeared with many opera companies including The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Omaha, Glyndebourne, Salzburg Whitsun Festival, and Hamburg State Opera. In her native Canada, she has appeared with Canadian Opera Company, Manitoba Opera, and Edmonton Opera. Her many roles include Giulietta (The Capulets and the Montagues), Marie (The Daughter of the Regiment), Adina (The Elixir of Love), Cleopatra (Julius Ceasar), Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), the title role in Orphée et Eurydice, and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi). She has received critical acclaim for her performances in contemporary operas including Mary (It’s a Wonderful Life), Pat Nixon (Nixon in China), Kumudha (A Flowering Tree), Boonyi/India in the world premiere of Jack Perla's Shalimar the Clown, Magnolia (Show Boat), and Guinevere (Camelot). 

In concert, Chuchman has appeared in staged performances of Pegolesi's Stabat Mater at Lincoln Center’s White Lights Festival. She has also appeared with Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and the Cincinnati May, Bellingham, and Ravinia festivals.  

Born in Winnipeg, Chuchman received her Bachelor's Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Manitoba School of Music. She is an alumna of the Ryan Opera Center and the Merola Opera Program. Chuchman’s awards include the Emerging Star of the Year for the 2019 Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Emerging Stars Competition, the 2018 Mabel Dorn Reeder Foundation Prize, and prizewinner at the Finals of the 2009 Neue Stimmen Competition.
