Leonard Foglia

Leonard Foglia has directed numerous world-premiere operas, including The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Everest, Moby Dick (filmed for PBS), It’s a Wonderful Life, Cold Mountain, The End of the Affair, Three Decembers, and Stonewall. Additionally, he has served as both director and librettist for several premieres, such as A Coffin in Egypt, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna (“To Cross the Face of the Moon”), El Pasado Nunca Se Termina (“The Past Is Never Finished”), and El Milagro del Recuerdo (“The Miracle of Remembering”). His production of Dead Man Walking has been performed extensively across the U.S. and Europe.

On Broadway, Foglia directed Master Class, Wait Until Dark, Thurgood (filmed for HBO), The People in the Picture, On Golden Pond, and The Gin Game. His off-Broadway work includes Anna Deavere Smith’s Let Me Down Easy (filmed for PBS) and Notes from the Field (filmed for HBO), as well as Laurence Fishburne’s Like They Do in the Movies.
