Born in Poland, pianist Piotr Wiśniewski has graced international stages performing as a soloist throughout Europe, the United States, and Latin America. Upon meeting his wife, Polish soprano Joanna Ruszala, Mr. Wisniewski embarked upon a career in collaborative piano. While working with legendary singers such as Teresa Kubiak, Carol Vaness, Patricia Wise, and Carlos Montané, his passion for opera grew and, in 2008, he became musical director of the graduate opera workshop and coach of the Opera Theater at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Soon after, he led the OperaMaya orchestra in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico during their 2014 season. After 11 years at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Piotr now serves as Head of Music Staff at Lyric Opera of Kansas City. At Lyric Opera, Piotr has been involved in numerous productions as chorus master, conductor, assistant conductor, and pianist. He works closely with the company’s Resident and Apprentice Artists and, for three years in a row, conducted his own chamber ensemble reduction of Amahl and the Night Visitors.
