Selena is a Mexican American lighting designer originally from Pueblo, Colorado. She earned a Master's in Lighting, Scenic, and Projection Design from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, embarking on a career that has taken her to the forefront of the performing arts industry. Selena has served as the lighting designer for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Music Theatre Heritage, Kansas City Actors Theatre, and various other venues throughout the Kansas City area.
Recently awarded the prestigious Hemsley Lighting Internship in 2022, Selena had the opportunity to work with distinguished institutions such as the San Francisco Opera, New York City Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Selena has served as the Lighting Supervisor/Assistant Lighting Designer at Santa Fe Opera and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. She is currently the Lighting Supervisor/Assistant Technical Director at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. In addition to her professional achievements, Selena is a passionate advocate for the arts and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of lighting designers.
