Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers is a work of art. Whether you are sitting in the Muriel Kauffman Theater or backstage, like local photographer Don Ipock, the production’s “passionate performances, athletic dancing, and dazzling visual display” is apparent (- critic Libby Hanssen, in a review for KC Studio). These images are taken from the final dress rehearsal of The Pearl Fishers on April 25.

Above, Zurga (John Moore, left) and Nadir (Sean Panikkar, right) are reunited after their friendship was nearly destroyed long ago.

The island dancers welcome Leila, the “goddess among us” – a veiled priestess who promises to ward off storms and evil spirits from the island.

Leila (Maeve Höglund, left) wards off storms and evil spirits while her attendants prepare her chamber.

Above, Nourabad (Christian Zaremba, center right) watches slyly as Leila (Maeve Höglund) prepares to beg Zurga for mercy.

Zurga (John Moore, left) frees Leila and Nadir (Maeve Höglund, Sean Panikkar), staying to pay the price for their sentence.
