Community
Learn about all of Lyric Opera’s various community engagement programs:
Opera to Go
Whether new to the opera or a longtime supporter, we know that many individuals in retirement communities and assisted living facilities cannot attend an opera performance in person. Opera to Go brings our talented and personable Resident and Apprentice Artists to retirement communities and assisted living facilities where audiences will enjoy a 45-minute program of opera arias, duets, and music theatre favorites.
Opera Dives Deep (formerly At Ease with Opera)
This free lecture series provides audiences with fresh insights from regional scholars and industry professionals to enrich appreciation and understanding of the operas in our season. Both established opera goers and curious newcomers alike are sure to make discoveries.
Pre-Opera Talks
Do you have tickets to see an opera at the Kauffman Center? Come one hour early to learn about the who, what, where, when, and why of the production you’re about to see.
Community Conversations
Community Conversations uses opera to discover our shared humanity, on and off the stage. We invite the culturally curious to explore the “here and now” implications of productions in a series of free events featuring live music and stimulating conversation. No prior opera knowledge needed!
Special Programs
Dad hasn’t been himself lately, or literally. Stephen King’s classic tale of seclusion and the sixth sense receives operatic treatment in Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s current production, The Shining. Join opera composer Paul Moravec and librettist Mark Campbell for a discussion of the book, The Shining, and how it made the leap from the page to the stage. Copies of the book will be provided to participants in advance of the discussion date.
