Learn about all of Lyric Opera’s various community programs:
Opera to Go
Whether new to the opera or a longtime supporter, we know that many individuals in retirement communities and assisted living facilities cannot attend an opera performance in person. Opera to Go brings our talented and personable Resident and Apprentice Artists to retirement communities and assisted living facilities where audiences will enjoy a 45-minute program of opera arias, duets, and music theatre favorites.
At Ease With Opera
The Kansas City Lyric Opera Guild presents the award-winning At Ease with Opera lecture series throughout the season in conjunction with Lyric Opera productions. At Ease with Opera is free to attend.
Organized and presented by the Guild, Pre-Opera Talks (also known as Opera Previews) begin one hour before curtain time for each mainstage performance in the Muriel Kauffman Theatre at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The previews are entertaining and offer a wealth of background about the composer, context, and history of the opera. Pre-Opera Talks are free to anyone who has purchased a ticket for the performance.
Soundscapes in the City
Soundscapes in the City, a series of free, short, outdoor concerts featuring LOKC artists singing hits from opera and musical theatre, was launched Fall 2020 to great acclaim. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and chairs, and enjoy a beautiful evening of opera and musical theatre’s greatest hits.
Why does opera matter today in Kansas City? Join us as we answer this question in our new series. Events will be held at various sites throughout the Kansas City metro area and admission is free.
