Artist Development

Lyric Opera offers two programs for artist development: the Resident Artist program and the Apprentice Artist program. The Resident Artist program selects postgraduate singers and pianists through auditions, providing them with mainstage performance opportunities, involvement in education and community initiatives, collaborations with guest artists, and professional training in various aspects of opera. The Apprentice Artist program offers training to graduate voice students from partner universities, allowing them to gain performance experience through chorus work, mainstage roles, and engagement in education and community projects. Alumni from both programs often continue to have successful careers in the opera industry.

Resident Artists

Postgraduate singers and pianists are chosen following a series of local and national auditions. During their residency, Resident Artists appear in mainstage roles; serve as performing resources for education and community engagement initiatives; work with visiting guest artists, conductors, and directors; participate in masterclasses and career coaching; receive voice lessons and vocal coaching; and study leading roles.
