February kicks off with Orpheus Affair in the Lyric’s production arts building in the Crossroads. Tickets are just $75 and include drinks, food, and impactful art installations. And most importantly, proceeds go towards the support of Lyric Opera of Kansas City programs. February also holds learning opportunities to get you prepped for The Shiningwhich makes its Kansas City premiere in March! Subscribers should start monitoring their inboxes for the 2023–2024 season announcement later this month, which includes an early opportunity to renew.

Orpheus Affair: Candelabra

Get your tickets to The Shining

Next month we are off to the Overlook Hotel for the Kansas City premiere of The Shining. Major American conductor Gerard Schwarz will make his Lyric Opera debut and lead an all-star cast, including Edward Parks as disturbed father Jack Torrance and American soprano Kelly Kaduce as Wendy. There is tremendous interest in this show, and demand for tickets is high, so secure seats soon before the best seats in the house are gone.

Community Events

Opera Dives Deep continues with two opportunities this month to enrich appreciation and understanding of The Shining. Explore the novel’s themes that are more insidious than ghosts and a haunted hotel, and hear from the opera’s librettist Mark Campbell and composer, Paul Moravec. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 7 for a Community Conversation to discover our shared humanity, on and off the stage.
